Talk:Main Page

From BSACWiki

My brain hurts. I have very little experience with WIKI's How do we add new pages then?

OK, it's really quite simple.

Find the place where you want to link your page in - imagine it's here

Edit the page where you want the link - this page in our example - and add a reference to the new page. Imagine we wanted to call it AndysNewPage. You'd edit in a new link:

[[AndysNewPage]]

You can either type the bracketing yourself (if you remember how), or use the "Internal link" button in the editor window. It's your choice - both methods do exactly the same thing.

Save the page. Your new link will appear on the existing page in red. This means it links to a non-existent page - click the link, and you'll be transported to the edit screen for your new page. As soon as you save something there, the new page will pop into existence.

That's a bit of a long-winded explanation - give it a go; it's easier than you imagine...

I was hoping for an 'add new page' feature or something I've been playing around but haven't actually added a page, (I don't think) I think I've just edited what's already here. (yes, I am that thick) Does it work on an indexing system or similar, or do you just type in a word in the search box and hope for the best?

That's another way of adding a page - if you seach for something that doesn't exist, you get the option to add that page. Beware that if you create a page that isn't linked from any other page, you'd need to know the name before you can find it again. This isn't always a bad thing - if that's the behaviour you want.

I'd like to add a page of diving abbreviations but am unsure what to do. Andy Wade.

Do something along the lines of adding (to the front page) :

Here's our long-promised [[Dictionary of Diving Abbreviations]] for your general pleasure.

Then go and edit the new page to your heart's content.

Any clearer now?

Small problem...

Sorry for your time.... Why i can't see images on this resource? My Browser is: Opera. Thank you.

There are not many images - can you see a BSAC symbol top left in all pages? All appears fine in IE6 and Firefox. --Adrian Kelland 13:06, 11 October 2006 (BST)
