Egyptian Law regarding depth limits?
Can anyone help?
I have spoken to Regal diving and my local shop but no one seems to be able to give me an answer. I see that by Egyptian Law diving is restricted to 30M depth. I also know that diving is carried out deeper than this during pleasure dives and courses. For example Trimix courses & dives. I am qualified to 90M with TDI and my BSAC holiday insurance covers me to 70M. I am also a BSAC Open Water Instructor. If the Egyptian law states 30M then how can this diving take place? How would holiday insurance be, if the law is 30m? Is the 30M limit JUST for air diving and qualification dependant? I was told to ask the dive operators as it was up to them to let someone go deeper than 30M, but does this then mean if they do they are all breaking Egyptian Law???? Can anyone enlighten me? Scott. |

Re: Egyptian Law regarding depth limits?
Correct, the DC's normally have permission to go deeper during deep diving courses, technical diving courses, etc., but for fundiving the limit by law is 30 meters.
Normally if you can prove you are qualified to dive deeper (which should not be a problem), the DC can take you down deeper. I presume they have to ask permission forst, but have never heard of anyone doing this. |

Re: Egyptian Law regarding depth limits?
Thanks for that!
After some phone calls and e mails I have found the following- RECREATIONAL diving for RERWARD is limited to 30M. i.e. PADI Dive guide or Instructor. Divers who are doing pleasure diving and not getting any reward are fine down to there own qualification level. i.e. BSAC Dive Leader 50M on air. TECHNICAL diving does not come under the 'RECREATIONAL' limit, so the 30M rule does not apply. I have spoken to my insurance company who informed me I am covered down to my own qualification limit of 50M on air and 90M with Trimix. I will be covered for any diving related incident. My source of information was Emporer Divers (Technical department) and Dive Master Insurance. Scott. Quote:
