Downloading data from an Aladin Prime

I've recently bought an Aladin Prime, anyone know how to get it to transfer data using the infra red function? The manual doesn't seem to have it, and the Scubapro website FAQ page is unavailable.

I don't have a Prime, but have the Smart.com, which is the Aladin computer before yours, so this may work.

1. Check your computer has an infra-red port. If it hasn't got one, you can't get any further (if you need such a port, I think that you can buy one to plug in, but I haven't seen them anywhere I've been).

2. Turn your dive computer on.

3. Point the infra-red port of the dive computer at the infra-red port of your computer.

4. Click on 'Transfer dives' on the PC menu.

5. If all is working, a pop-up window appears, with alteranately flashing red lights, and a remark that the data is being transferred. Alteranatively, you will get an error message to say the dive compuetr can't be found. Usual cause of that with me is that the diev computer has switched itself off automatically, or the ports aren't lined up.

6. If its worked, you see a message on the PC to tell you how many dives have been transferred.

Let me know if this works - you will teach me then.

Cheers, Ron, however I'd done all that already. I've a Scubapro approved Belkin IrDA which seems to be ok, but when I 'transfer dives'using Smartrak, it doesn't pick up anything. The dive computer should apparently 'ping' when it find an IrDA device in its proximity, but it doesn't see anything either.

I also had a problem with downloading dives using the IrDA on my Smart Pro. I had to buy an plug in IrDA, it is fine on a PC at work loaded with XP professional but not with my laptop which has XP home. It might be that.

I had a similar problem with my laptop and Aladin Prime. Nothing to do with XP Home vs. Professional. It turned out the infra red device on the laptop was disabled. To enable it you have to enter the boot up program for the pc by pressing the F8 key(usually F8 but depends on the computer) when the pc starts up and before Windows starts. When you are in the boot up program look for a menu item called something like 'Advanced' or 'Device settings' (again this will depend on the pc). Within 'Device settings' you should see the option to Enable/Disable the infra red device.

Hope you get it working!
