Thumbs up I used to be a member in 90's

Hi All I used to be a member of the BSAC, in Bude in Cornwall, I got up to being a Sports Drive... I have now lost my driving record book during my move to Somerset. Dose any one now if the BSAC keep records from back then, also would I have to start all over again with my driver training..

If some one could point me in the write direction that would be good..

How would I have to contact etc..

Many Thanks..

Re: I used to be a member in 90's

Insofar as i know, BSAC only keeps FCD and instructor info...bar now the grades/SDC stuff is accessable on-line too for current members.

If you have any instructor quals, maybe. The branch may also have some details, though unlikely.

If you explain your position to your new DO then they can assess your skills and place you in the current system at a place suitable.

Its not like Boyles law etc has changed is it

If you can remember you membership number there is a chance HQ Membership Manager may by able to help. But even with just name and address you could be lucky.

HQ underwent a major IT upgrade a few years ago, although most old data was transferred there was a lot of invalid data.

Welcome back, it shouldn't take you long to pick up the basics again then its just learning the new bits for Sports Diver, like Dive Management, Nitrox and DSMB deployment - no hassle.

Regards

Edward

If you're going to Sharm go and see our very own Steve at http://making-god-laugh.moonfruit.com/, I'm sure he'll sort it. Better still, give him a hoy beforehand. He's been there for a while, he does this for a living and to my knowledge he's pretty good at it.

Re: I used to be a member in 90's

Hi Clive,

People turning up here having lost/forgotten there diving quals is quite a common occurrance, if you go to one of the larger centres and explain your predicament they will more than likely have "procedures" to get you into the water.

Here at Emperor Divers (and I know other centres in town do the same thing), an instructor would have a chat with you to see if you really did know what you were talking about, and this would be followed by a Scuba Review - once successfully completed you would then be free to go to any of the relevant dive sites you wished.

HTH.

Steve

PS. Cheers CG

Re: I used to be a member in 90's

I had the same problem last year; dived in the 90's, Sports Diver, lost my log book and qualifications. BSAC had no record of anything apart from my old membership number. Luckily I managed to contact my old DL who taught me and although he didn't have any records, he wrote a letter to my new club's DO setting out my previous quals and experience. With this, it was decided I would 're do' my Sports Diver qualifications, rather than start with Ocean Diver. It also provided me with a good refresher.
