Basically the ADI can not teach DL in Open Water anymore. It would be my guess that most Instructors/DOs are not aware of the differences made at 2008/12 Bit of a sneaky change then! Gary |

Thanks Edward, Just as Gary was not aware I was not either. My fault as I should be continually checking updates, but, for something that was such a fundemental change to instructor requirements for DL by ADI + DL I would have expected it to have been highlighted and perhaps discussed. Perhaps it was and I missed it but I do try to read all of the notifications which come out of HQ. Well at least this discussion has brought it to light and brought me up to date. Hamish

Re: OWIC
ok so just for clarification:
DL + IFC can teach DL theory and dl dry practical skills under on-site supervision (i.e. not direct supervision) except DP1 and DP2 DL + OWIC can teach DL theory and practical under on-site supervision ?? |

Ash, Just for clarity I have laid it all out here; Onsite supervision by OWI Classroom lesson DT1 The Role of the Dive Leader Classroom lesson DT2 Basic Life Support Classroom lesson DT3 Oxygen and Diving Incidents Classroom lesson DT4 Casualty Assessment Classroom lesson DT5 Oxygen Administration Equipment Classroom lesson DT6 Oxygen Administration in Practise Classroom lesson DT7 Use of Oxygen Administration Equipment Classroom lesson DT8 Dive Planning Classroom lesson DT9 Rescue Management - Part 1 Classroom lesson DT10 Helicopter Operations Classroom lesson DT11 Rescue Management - Part 2 Classroom lesson DT12 Dive Management Onsite supervision by OWI Open water lesson DO5 Rescue Management Scenarios (dry element only) Open water lesson DO7 Rescue Skills Review (dry element only) Under Direct supervision of an instructor who holds the minimum qualification of BSAC Advanced Instructor Dry practical lesson DP1 Dive Management Part 1 Dry practical lesson DP2 Dive Management Part 2 Open water lesson DO1 DSMB Use Open water lesson DO2 Dive Leading Demonstration Open water lesson DO3 Dive Leading Open water lesson DO4 Shot Recovery by Simple Lift Open water lesson DO6 Diving and Rescue Skills Review DL + OWIC requires only onsite supervision by a OWI for all sections. I suspect that it requires an AI for in water supervision as it requires an ITS AI on the OWIC. Hamish

Re: OWIC
Thanks for the clarification Hamish!
I have actually done my OWIC - but it was a few months ago and I couldn't remember what they said we could teach! Ash |
