| Why New Forums? |
| Because the old ones are dated, very difficult to maintain and inflexible. They didn't meet the needs of a modern club. |
| Why do I have to register and provide an e-mail address? |
| Because that's the nature of the modern internet. If we didn't do that then we would be swamped by what are known as "trolls" who register silly, anonymous accounts and ruin it for everybody else. |
| Why do you want my BSAC membership details and who sees it? |
| We want your membership details so that we can give our members a better service! Only you and the system administrators (all trusted members) can see it. The information is sent to BSAC HQ where we look for you on our membership systems and then update your privileges on the forums. The system is fully automatic, the vast majority of members are processed within an hour of filling in their profile. |
| How do I know if you've accepted my membership information? |
| What can you see on the 'Forums' page that lists all of our forums? If you can see a group of forums called 'Members Forums' then your membership details have been accepted and processed. If all you can see is the 'Public Forums' then something has gone wrong somewhere. For the vast majority of members it works perfectly on fully automatic, but see the next FAQ answer if you think we're wrong. |
| I am a BSAC member, but you don't think that I am |
| Ah! It's computers dealing with this automatically, normally everything works but sometimes there is a glitch, there's an extra box on your profile that comes from the system, that might give you a clue. But if you have problems then ask one of the system administrators, they will have a look and try to work out what's wrong. It could be a minor problem here in the forums or back at BSAC HQ, in which case we'll contact you to check things, sort it all out for you and get it working. |
| What extra features do members get then? |
| You get your own forums for a start, there's one for all members, one for instructors, another for branch officers and a few special interest ones that we're still working on. Then there's extra privileges that are being tuned all of the time, you get things like bigger mailboxes, more storage space, bigger attachment limits, better permissions to use forum features... These forums are very useble and very friendly even without these extra features, as a guest you are very welcome to join us here and join in on our public forums. But members of the BSAC club, those people who we know and dive with, they deserve that little bit extra. |
| What are you doing with the old forums? |
| They will eventually be switched off and replaced with these new ones. We've got an archive on here, what we're going to try and do is copy all of the old forum posts to these new forums so that you can see them and search them. You won't be able to make new posts to them, but everything should be here eventually and you can carry on discussions using the new forums if you want to. |
