Residence Fanara

Does anybody have any info on the Residence Fanara, in Sharm
as featured in the Thompsom Brochure?

I am trying to find out exactly where on Um El Sid it is and
can anybody reccomend any dive schools close by.

Have tried searches, but cant find a map of Sharm that shows
the position.

Any help or info appreciated.

It's in the Ras Umm Sid area of Sharm which is about 7km out of Naama Bay, probably the second most popular area for development after Naama. One of the most famous traditional dive sites is marked by a lighthouse here and I think that the Fanara is on the clifftop plain, quite near the lighthouse, if I remember it right. We stayed nearby at the Hilton Waterfalls at Easter.

Our hotel had a small beach, but most hotels up there bus you to the local beach developments and have huge pools instead. Problem re beach is that the reef comes right up to the edge of the cliff (not a problem for us, right!!) so theres's no scope for beach development.

That's about all I can tell you other than it was a really pleasant area in which to stay and no problem at all being out of Naama, you could get a cab down to town for a couple of pounds if you wanted and all the dive operators pick up from the hotels up there, although there are some local dive centres based in Ras Umm Sid.
We dived with one called New Wave who seem to cover all the agencies and they were very obliging and good with a mix of boats based on diving requirements and needs. Not crowded at all, unlike some of the boats out of Naama. I can get you a telephone number if you want.

I stayed at the Iberotel Club Fanara last year and was really
trying to find out where the Fanara Residence was in relation
to that. Cant seem to find any maps of Um El Sid.
