Hi
Does anyone know any good places for freshwater snorkelling south of the Humber area within 15 - 20 miles of Scunthorpe.
I've emailed 7 lakes and Hatfield water park, but havent had any response from them yet
any suggestions welcome
thanks

I am not a snorkeler, but I can't imagine why you would want to snorkel in 7 lakes. Very weedy place.
There is a place near Doncaster/Womersley called Blue Lagoon which would be worth a try. The water is quite clear and you can see fish around the edges.

Thanks Gary I'll check it out. It wasnt a case of wanting to snorkel in 7 lakes - just trying to find somewhere reasonably local - didnt know it was full of weeds

I used to use 7 Lakes as a training site for divers. It was in reasonable access from York. But the site had a priorty for water skiers which on occasions led to dangerous situtions taking place, coupled with the lack of anything to see and the weed and silt. Also the owners were not really diver friendly at the time.
I had a couple of decent dives in the low light conditions where the fish came out. But that was a few years ago, maybe things have changed.
Blue Lagoon is certainly a much better site. And it is Diver friendly. Cant find the website but I am sure someone will later.

For anyone thats interested, Ashbyville Lake in scunthorpe allow scuba and snorkelling, it looks pretty clear but i dont know how deep it is, car parking is free and they charge £3 per day to use it
hey im new to all this malarky but ive recently visited ashbyville lake ...dont go there is my opinion...for anyone who has any sense and has any good diving experience its not the best place....when i went i noticed that there is a morrisons to the back of it containing butcher, fish monger, bakery, and restaurant. also there is a mcdonalds in close proximity too ...RATS RATS n more ...RATS....i dont much fancy catching leptospirosis (weils disease)..no thanks i shall not be diving there.....
also the public can get to the waters edge ...i looked right around the lake and there is litter in and around the lake ....
also there are jet ski's in (i wouldnt wanna come up under one of them)
3 pound a day ...you know its gunna be iffy

I snorkelled it last year and its OK. Also the police divers and local BSAC scuba club use the site.
Water skiers can be a problem, but if you have a friendly chat with them theyre usually more than happy to set boundaries.
Are you local then Azbog??
Why would you want to snorkel a freshwater lake that's a trout fishing lake and murky as hell. Dive it for training, maybe but I'd rather drink a pint of Humber water from 1984!
