Hi I'm flying out to Spain tomorrow morning and am brining out all my kit. I just thought about my dive knife.
Is it OK to pack in the checked luggage (Sports luggage)? I was unsure about bringing it into the airport!
Cheers,
Darran

Checked in is fine just make sure it is in a sheath of some sort.

Ditto, and keep it out of sight whilst diving as some places are a little funny about divers taking in knifes (well they were in the red sea a couple of yrs ago).

Unless you're expecting to run into monofilament (fishing) line, when surgical shears would be better anyway, why bother with a knife at all?

Hi
Yes its OK to bring your knife to Spain as long as its only sharpened on one side serrated it OK.
A twin bladed knife is considered a "puņal" or dagger and is an offensive weapon and will land you in jail.
As well as mono-filament line, be aware that there has been an increase in the use of long lines, especially for hake, as line caught commands a much higher price at market.
Another danger is discarded line from spear guns especially were tuna is been caught. But if you can salvaged this it makes a fantastic replacement for your DSMB reel !!:D

Ditto - Jesus, thats twice in a week I've agreed with CG
Knives have no place in diving anymore unless you are just after looking macho!

Well, you could knock me over with a feather. ;) :)
I have been known to, very occasionally, take a specialist abalone knife with me since abalone are the only live items that divers are allowed to lift out of the water (minimum size, maximum quantity) here in NSW, Oz. I happen to agree with that ruling because abalone cannot be harvested any other way (they cling to the rocks worse than limpet mines) and I think that going for anything else on Scuba is totally unfair - including crayfish. In this State if you have both scuba and spearfishing equipment (includes crayfish slings) on board they can confiscate the lot, including boat and trailer, and I can't fault that at all.

Same here in Spain, worse still if ca ugh with shellfish like mussels and scallops you can be done under the food handling laws and end up in prison for 2 1/2 years.
Any sentence under 2 years is suspended for a first offence,,,thats why there is an extra 6 months
