Planning a trip to Jordan in Sept. Little bit of site seeing and then a week diving out of Aqaba. Thinking of booking with Aquatours and diving with Seastar Watersports.
Would be pleased to hear from anyone who has been to Jordan and their experiences good or bad.
Many thanks

My husband and I are going for a couple of days from tomorrow. Diving with Royal Jordanian. I contacted Seastar Watersports thinking they had BSAC Instructors so I could do my Sport Diver but they say no only PADI. Anyone know of any BSAC School in Aqaba? I have looked at the BSAC website but nothing! Dave we'll let you know how we got on!

Anyone I'm sorry I must be having a 'blonde' moment I understand that Royal Dive Centre is affiliated to BSAC/PADI.

So onwards and downwards!!!

Can heartily recommend Seastar and the Alcatraz Hotel. All shore dives, very easy - no currents as such - and good viz.

Try the Chinese restaurant if you want good food when out of the hotel.

Petra is magic. Need two days, eat at the Movenpick near the village.
Wadi Rum - hire a taxi from Aqaba for a day, don't forget the camera, good walking shoes.

Jerash/Dead Sea done from Amman (bargain jewelry here)

Credit cards are not widely used, so bring cash. Banks are ever so slow for Tr. Chks.

Very safe country, you won't feel vulnerable.

Have fun!

We spent a week in Aqaba two years ago (just before the war started) We were the only Brits in town but were treated extremely well. The people are very friendly and the town is a great place to base yourself for visits to Petra, Dead Sea and best of all Wadi Rum. We stayed at the Radisson which was very nice but this year in August we are going to the Alcazar as they have free transport to their own beach club (Murjan) from where you can snorkel, dive or just bounce around on the 7m water trampoline!. We have done a diy package with flights to Amman but there is a charter flight from Gatwick each week directly into Aqaba. The rates at the Alcazar if you book directly are amazingly cheap - much better value than any brochure prices. We met the staff at the Alcazar at this year's dive show and they couldn't have been more helpful. If you want any of the files they sent me send me a personal e-mail and I will forward them to you.

Have a great time!

Planning a trip to Jordan in Sept.

JUST RETURNED MYSELF

From Aquaba having dived with the Royal Diving Centre As they have accomodation available at their site and with excelent facilities for both diving and sunbathing ( for those who dont dive)The accomodation although it may be considered basic is good the food is excelent and the house reef adiquate. Not much in the way of wrecks although The Cedar Pride is excelent and not deep. An excelent reef with outstanding corals just along the road to the Suadi border(about 45Mts deep in parts with a deep drop off). Site seeing wise Petra and WadiRUm are just about 2 Hrs away but be prepared for a loooooooong walk when you get there. realy a good place to enjoy everything.

I also dived with Royal Jordanian and stayed at the accommodation not bad but if non diver a 15 min taxi into Aqaba town. Reefs excellent compared to those here in Eilat. Went to Ali Baba restaurant not too bad but I think I would have preferred the Chinese. Next time going to Wadi Rum but not Petra as not a culture vulture!
