Can anybody tell me what is the best currency to take to Sharm? I seem to remember it was US Dollars, is this still the case?
Thanks for you help.

Since the Russian /Italian "invasion" of Egypt following 9/11, Euros seem to be much more acceptable than US dollars. GBP are ok.
If you want Egyptian pounds, remember to order well in advance before you go!

Hi I have just come back for Hungarda on the 20 feb and I took the Egyptian pound which I got from a travel shop before going and the exchange rate was 10.6 to the UK pound I had no problems with any money. I would sujest you take UK pounds and get some Egyptian pounds as well as they will take anything but don?t forget to barter with the shops.

I have found that the best way of getting egyptian pounds is to use the ATM's in Sharm. This way you get the interbank rate (about 12 LE to the ?) rather than the tourist rate, (around 10 LE to the ?.
Be aware though that some banks charge you about ?3 for each withdrawal. I opened a Nationwide current account just to cover this as they don't charge you for cash withdrawals anywhere in the world. I just pay my spending cash into that account a week before I go.
You will find the dive centres will take anything for extra's but I have found cash ueros works best :-)
