carwyn,

good luck with your ocean diver.

Second hand kit can be a good way to go, but I strongly recommend that you ask someone 'in the know' about stuff your thinking of buying - especially for regs. See comments on other threads about buying second hand regs. You must be careful to ensure you don't actually end up spending more on a 2nd hand set than you would have spent on a brand new set!

Hi Martin,

Thanks for your advice. I have been looking at purchasing new regs the model is the scubapro r395 and the r395 octo as well are these good regs to start off with?

I believe the R395 has superceeded the R380 I use, attached to a Mk16 1st stage. That particular set has been in regular use for 4 years, now, and has given me trouble free service from 0 to 65m. (and, although I probably shouldn't admit this, I haven't actually had them serviced in that time, I don't think!)

Well done on becoming an Ocean Diver. With regards to your question about regs, for every bit of equipment out there someone will have a positive or a negative view on that individual bit of kit. We will invariably promote and be positive about the kit we actually use as thats whats keeping us alive however we all dive and breath differently.
I suggest that you try as many types of all sorts of kit out (regs, suits, fins) before you purchase, that way it becomes less of an expensive mistake.
Good luck and enjoy :)
