Just returned (with 10 others, OD to AD/OWI) and contemplating a return inside 3 months, having all enjoyed 64 excellent dives between us.
Strikes me that parking is plentiful and cheap, facilities nearby are good and the boats well run. Lots of wrecks and well-stocked reefs, ample for a few days whatever your ability or experience.
In comparison to elsewhere in England things seem about as good as they get. It also has the inestimable advantage of lying UP the M6, so we can cover the 210 miles in about 4 hours.
Can you do something about the weather, then?

I stick with the club's winning formula and let Lee do all the work on Farne Diver. His midweek B&B, boat and 2 dives is excellent value.

Yes couldn't agree more. Lee is a top bloke, at great value - and abuse from Stan at breakfast thrown in for free!!!

Our club dives out of Seahouses quite alot. It is one of those places that can usually provide a dive when others can't. Just find the lee of the islands etc. There are a few good wrecks south of the islands, Acclivity, Nideleven and a few to the north. The Islands themselves are great for getting new people introduced to diving. We dive in RIBS there and the slipway is really good. It was extended a few years ago so we dont have the problem of getting them in a low water like we used to. It is still relativley cheap to launch and the parking is good too and easy to swap bottles over at lunch time. Only problem we have is getting camping accomodation, if you dont book early then you dont get in. We were hoping to go up there at the Bank Holiday but nothing left for tents.
It can be a bit of a pain on a hot summer weekend, when the entire contents of newcastle appear to decend on the town.
But other than that it is great.

I agree,
Lee Hall and his Dad are one of the best, especially now the Farne Diver has got a lift.:)
Have dived the last 3 years off this boat and as you say you couldn’t get much better both for excellent diving and value for money B & B.
Not going this year as I’m off to Scapa Flow (next Saturday) to see the Fleet.

Is and has been for a long while a good place to dive from.
Plenty of local harboats, accomodation, bacon buttie shops etc.
Launching your own boat looks like it requires a Land Rover though, Beadnell the easier option now the tractor is working again.

i've also been doin it for best part of 15 years now and found beadnell got to be a rip off with prices, only been launching at seahouses for the last 2 years, and can launch my own boat (5m Rib) with a little white van!.
also seem to be saving £10 a day in fuel been that bit closer to the islands. do you dive with a club ?

I think I would agree, it appears more expensive at Beadnell and you dont need a 4x4 to lauch at Seahouses. It is also nicer to have a wander round Seahouses in between dives and possibly easier to swap bottles for a second dive. I would still launch at Seahouses if I was diving south of Beadnell. i.e the wrecks. My RIB also sustained damage at Beadnell once when the sea was quite choppy and you just dont get that at Seahouses. But each to their own.

Hi we launch at Seahouses an improvement would be to extend the time out for recovery ie extended the time that it is ok to recover a RIB / boat from the harbour maybe by a couple of hours
cheers Steven

steve, that is one thing that they are slowly in the middle of developing by adding hardcore at the end during spring low's to get rid of that awfull lip at the end.
