Q-cards with every grade

Hi Folks,

Can't see it on the web yet, but there's just been a special BSAC talk email out saying that Q-cards will be included with every grade now. The increase in pack cost got lost in my email, but I think it sounds a pretty good idea...


Qualification Card - now with every diver grade

Meeting the demand from members, we are now including the Q-Card in the cost of the training materials - for each diver grade. Negotiating a special cost and outsourcing, we have kept the price increase down to a very modest amount of just .00 extra per pack. This is the first increase in five years - and we have added value to the packs too by including the Q-Card with every diver grade!

I just read this and was very pleased :) Good work BSAC.

It is (was) a regular gripe of people in my club, especially cross-over divers a couple of whom carried aBSAC membership card around only to find it wasn't any use to prove they could dive!

One question - Can people who already have a pack & are part way through training download the form & get a card for £2 or do they still have to pay the old rate?

No idea I'm afraid, I think we'll just have to wait and see. Where did you get the £2 from? Do you get the HTML version of the mail? I'm on plain text and just see .00.

Yep really good idea at last :D

They have gone a bit mad with the A5 binders though.
Seems you get one even if you just want the student notes in some cases.

And before anybody moans, we spend about £1200 a year on these packs,
so a few quid on each one is quite a bit for something you've already got.

Think a tweak is in order.

Accoridng to the BSAC talk I got today, it's the card with the photo and it costs an extra two quid per pack.

The NEW Training Packs, Qualification Card application and online certification system

Always striving for improvement and innovation, BSAC are now producing all student diver training materials in self-contained cartons. The packs will comprise of the same contents as before for each diver grade and variation - as appropriate.

The only difference will be the introduction of separate binders for the Student Notes - for each diver grade.
The new cartons will ensure that each student gets all the material they need enclosed together, rather than loose components which can get separated. The new packs will be easier to mail out and handling will be more convenient for both Branches and members.

Training material delivered August 6 onwards will be the new-style packs.

Q-Card Application Form - and updating members' records

Enclosed in each training pack will be a Qualification Card Application form. This will enable the Branch or Centre Instructor to endorse the application for students. Not only will this trigger the generation of the card, but it will also ensure that members' qualifications are up-to-date. (Currently BSAC HQ is dependent on the annual membership renewal form as the main facility for members' records to be updated).
Benefits will be tremendous. With members' qualifications more current, this will help when enrolling on instructor events, where qualifications need to be verified as entry requirements. The same form will be used for applications for Q-Cards for SDCs too (Advanced Nitrox, ERD etc.)

Online too!
In addition to the paper copy of the Q-Card Application Form, as this is dependent on being completed and posted, we have devised an online version too. This will enable the Branch or Centre Instructor to endorse the application for students - making the delivery of the card and updating the details even quicker.

Advanced Diver is a trip planner qualification anyway so presenting it to a holiday dive centre mean's you're off duty. The check dive will be £40 Sir.

I can't make out what cards you can get for the SDC's, I know off the nitrox & mixed gases are there others??

If this is to include SDC's can members get Q Cards for SDC's they have previously done?

No wonder I'm "confoosed". No wonder I have no intention to ever dive in waters controlled by these types of shenanigans where - it would appear - an appropriately "qualified" C Card means a great deal more than what a diver can actually do. No, I am not referring to myself there.

Or am I (hopefully) missing something?
