hi

I'm off to Sharm with the young lady friend for chrimbo. a few questions, which are unsatisfactorily answered elsewhere.

VISA's - I'm told ?10 at the airport - is the ?10 sterling, or egyptian?? An supposed to go to the 'bank kiosks' - are they pretty obvious to find at sharm airport?

passports - my travel agent (hayes and jarvis) reckons that a passport iwht 10 yrs validity is required. Mine is only valid for 5 years (was free extension to old kiddy 5 year passport). Both UK passport office and egyptian embassy london say that should be fine. anyone know anything else?

think that's it.
thanks in advance.

HI,

Depending on who you are travelling with you may find that your tour rep has bought the visa's for your party and will hand them to you in the arrivals area. Last time I was there they collected the Visa money in Sterling on the coach to the hotel. Sharm airport is fairly small so you won't get lost. I would advise you to have some egyptian ?'s when you arrive as it can greatly assist in luggage retrieval! It's amazing how quickly your bags turn up when you slip the right people a few quid!!

I'm there for Xmas as well, from the 16th to 30th. Who are you diving with?

Regards

Alan

Hi Martin
The actual amount you will have to pay can be a bit variable (!) but it is ?10 gbp. I've never bothered to get a visa in advance because it is so easy to do on arrival. Basically, there is a really obvious desk which you line up for in the entry hall, you pay your money and the chap puts a stamp in your passport, this is then checked as you go through immigration. Don't worry about it - you can't miss it. Haven't had the experience Alan quotes of the tour rep having the visa, but then we haven't been on a package for a while which is probably why.
There is always a queue, so another piece of advice I would give you is to try and get a seat as far forward in the plane as possible so that you can get off quickly. You should then be near the front of the queue. On the other hand, your bus won't leave until everyone is on it anyway, so you may have to wait anyway.
The only thing I know about passport requirements is that it must be valid for a full 6 months after you arrive - that's it.

Have a great time. Sharm is a lot of fun and Camel is a great place to be based - right in the centre of the town. They had a really great Indian restaurant in the hotel when I visited last. The upstairs bar is a meeting place for lots of divers and divemasters in Sharm - very noisy, but if its not too cold don't miss the roof garden with lots of cushions for lounging and you can even try a shisha pipe.

Looks like it's going to be a bit busy in the Camel bar.
I'm going to be there along with 14 others as well.

Probably easiest to pick a group of 14 and shout Terry.
If you get an awnser it's me. If they give you puzzled looks
it's not. Other than that a pretty mixed group of nair do wells.
