I'm looking for information on the wreck of the Figero in Guernsey. Supposedly it was torpedoed by a U-boat on 26/01/1918 but I have been able to find virtually nothing about it. It is a good wreck laying in about 40m off the SW shore of Guernsey, Channel Islands.

Only info I have at present is from the book Guernsey Wrecks by Ray Drafter. Only mention is that it sunk on 26 Jan 1918 position 49deg 22minN 02deg 45minW. Possibly more info to follow. JM

Thanks, anything is useful. I've now also found out from one of our Severnside club members it was positivly identified by the 10" brass letters on its stern and that an unmarked bell was recovered some time ago.

Charles. Apparently this boat aimed for Guernsey after being hit and sunk about 1/2 mile off the south coast. It lies next to a reef and is not easy to locate. It was well salvaged after the war.JM

The Figaro lies in a gulley on the east side of Boue Baker in about 46m. She appears to be well broken. Probably the best source of information would be Richard Keanes of Guernsey, I'm afraid I don't have contact information for him.

Thanks. I've emailed Richard but haven't had a response. Neither the Guernsey or UK Receaver of Wrecks has any information, but have receaved some from Mike Shean of Severnside. It's a good dive, much of the stern seems reasonably OK with the boiler and large prop worth visiting.
