I have removed this post, see the explanation that follows.

The post that I have removed was critical of a particular charter skipper in Scapa Flow. I have been contacted by a BSAC member who was the organiser of the trip, they claim that the post was inaccurate and posted under a false name.
Whilst I and the club will support any member who wishes to make factual comments I do insist that they be made by real people who are prepared to stand up and defend what they have said ? if you?re not prepared to put your name to something then don?t say it.
Under the circumstances I have removed the post, the BSAC will never support what I have been informed is anonymous and unwarranted criticism via these forums. If the original author would like to contact me directly and make a case for the post to remain then I will consider restoring it.

Hi Keith,
BSAC rules state that we should each use our full name when posting, yet 90% of traffic on these boards comes from people using nicknames. I understand & support your reasons for removing this post, but would be happier if ALL the rules were enforced.
(Disclaimer-I had nothing to do with the original post, indeed I haven't even seen it!)

Now lets not get our knickers in a twist. Keith does an excellent job in maintaining decorum on the forums. You have to register so he knows who you are. The rules are there should he need to enforce them but lets have some flexibility. NEway, if someone wanted to use a false name instead of a nickname I suspect it would be very difficult to stop.
Cheers

Hi Folks
We've done this one to death over on General Forum several times. In practice I have far better things to do than moderate and enforce rules on forums! The rules are there, it's whether we decide to enforce them or not. If a contributor behaves and uses these forums for the purposes intended then I don't notice minor infringements of rules and I would far rather leave things well alone and let people have their say. However, when we get things such as trolls, anonymous BSAC bashing, SPAM and abuse for the sake of it then I can decide to apply the rules to remove it. So if people really want to use a nickname then provided it is not offensive they will generally get away with it unless they abuse the forums.
I do however have to apply the rules very strictly when it is something critical or potentially libelous, these forums will NOT be used for people to make anonymous remarks hiding behind their keyboard - if you're not prepared to put your (real) name to what you're saying then don't say it on here!
This particular case here was difficult, I have spoken to two of the parties involved by private email and it was only after due consideration of what was said to me that I decided to remove the post. We all consider the matter closed and are happy with the reasons for the actions of all parties. If it comes back then everyone knows the rules by which it will be allowed. And there I think we'll leave it! Until the next time...

...the point I was (tactfully) raising was a swipe at the 'one hit wonders' who ridicule valid posts with unsubstantiated claptrap.....anonimously!
(I'm in Keiths fanclub too)

If that happens then I suddenly take a deep interest in the rules and apply them vigorously :-) It's worked so far!
