I need a regulator for a deco bottle containing anywhere from 40-80% oxygen mix. I would like a reg that I can put into this hight O2 service and readily get annually serviced. What manufacturer and model do you think would be best suitable? I have heard the Apex ATX50 would be a good choice. What are your thoughts and suggestions?

I use TX40's nice easy breath, nitrox version OK to 100% out of the box, easy to service. I use DST first stages as I find the setup easier, you can lay the hose down the cylinder for carrying but swivel it to be easier to breath once on the stop

I'd use anything from Apex.

Apeks ATX50 great high performance reg. However unless you're absolutely minted - do you need a high performance regulator for hanging on a deco stop in <10m?

Scubapro Mk2+/R190 - cheap as chips, bullet proof. The cheapest and easiest reg to get serviced & cleaned.

Whilst some will give you a good case for having interchangable bits of kit. There is a bad and deadly side to that if you stick the wrong regulator in your mouth.

I consciously chose the R190/Mk2+ as its completely different to my other regs. I even know from the "agricultural" breathe that its not my main reg.

Worth thinking about.

Cheers,
Paul.

I need a easily serviced reg that can readily be put into 40-80% O2 service. I hope that I can get a good one cheap as I will only be using it for deco stops. I really hope to pick up a quality used reg on ebay or something.

Quality, easily serviced, handle 40-80%, cheap = ???

Given that the deco stops may well be 2-3 times longer than the bottom time i fail to see why you would want anything less than a top reg for the job!

Diving is not a cheap sport, live with it.......or alternatively get a cheap reg off ebay

do you need a high performance regulator for hanging on a deco stop in <10m?Definitely. I'm more worried about the reg I put high percentages of oxygen through than one I breath deep.

Oxygen is not your friend.

I'm not suggesting to get a crap regulator. I can get a used Apeks TX50 on ebay for 50GBP. Throw in a quality service and O2 servicing and you get a QUALITY reg for a cheap price . . . not cheap quality.

I want a good name, quality equipment. Of course I understand the need for good quality when you spend 20+ minutes breathing near pure O2. But a guy can look for a deal also.

Apeks can be purchased cheap because there are so many out there.

Can you suggest any other brands that can handle O2 to 80% that are quality that I may be able to get a deal on?

I find it amusing that today Apeks has such a good name for manufacturing regulators - because back in 1992 when we did the first 55m side-by-side regulator test and found that the Apeks was probably the best performer, I was castigated by the trade and all 'real' divers because they all believed the best regulator came from Sweden and they all thought Apeks made only rubbish! The rest, as they say, is history.

You're always going to get that.

Between 'the trade' and 'real divers' it's hard to decide which of us is the most reactionary.

lol

I got a couple of cheap jetstream a few years ago and switched to them on my twinset keeping my apeks as stage regs. Never really liked them and parted with them as soon as I got the breather
