Hi All,
Much beloved has been going on about going over to the dark world of rebreathers. I'm now saving pennies to at least give her the funds to buy a system. As there aren't any Rebreather divers in my branch, I'd like to ask you lovely people for some advice.
Where, in Kent, is the best place to buy a rebreather?
What system is seen as the best on the market, and how much does it cost (roughly)?
Is there anyone willing to have a chat with her about what to look for, cautions, etc.
I'm also going to book her on a Rebreather course, so she has the grounding she needs as well.
Any info you can give me, would be great, it's a totally new world to me!
Cheers all!

I would definitely recommend a Rebreather Try Dive if you can find one.
It was a great day and we got to try 3 or 4 different units and the coaching team dived a variety of different units also so would be great for advice.

Hmm... Hadn't thought of that. I might just have to, won't I? ;)
Still, I would appreciate any advice.

Tekstreme (http://www.tekstremediving.com/) used to do a week with about 5 units IIRC. Worth an email to Aaron.

Lots of really good info and unit comparisons here: http://www.rebreatherworld.com/forums.php
Personally I would say it only really makes sense to do this as a buddy pair so you defo need one too Chris :D

Hi
What sort of diving would she be doing on it?
If she doesnt intend to go deeper than 40m-ish then a SCR may be more suitable. A Drager Dolphin is a great little unit.
If she's better off on a CCR and she's petite an Evolution could be suitable.
As has been mentioned do a try dive on several units.

If you have a B&Q near you then you can knock up a working rebreather in an afternoon. Here's mine...

However if I was going to buy one then either:
KISS with a Shearwater HUD
or
Revo II
I won't start the mCCR v eCCR thing off but frankly I prefer bits of metal to things that go beep in the deep.
As for SCR then why bother? All the prep, risk and hassle of a CCR without any great benefit over OC. For shallower than 40m diving then OC is the way to go.

Hi Magentaseas,
She's talking about going for the deep wrecks. She attended a couple of Jack Ingle's lectures, and wants to follow in his fin strokes... (I'm not sure, it's the nappy thing that I can't get my head around :)), so I assume then that a CCR is best?
Those that know Lynn will know that she's not petite, being a 6 footer, so size of the unit is not too much of an issue.
Cheers Magentaseas!

Lynn doesn't know I'm saving up yet. She doesn't access the forum. I'll be talking to Graham on Monday.
To all those who've PM'd me. Thanks, will be following up.
