Hi All

My partner and I are heading for a years travelling in Australia. We will also be briefly visiting Thailand, Malaysai, New Zealand and Bali.

As an Open Water Instructor (Dive Leader) and Sports diver we hope to get work in some of the Dive centers of Australia.

Does anyone know where its possible to get Travel insurance that will cover us to travel for a year and have an unlimited amount of Dive's. (Also diving below 30meters would be a bonus).

Jonathan,

Have you tried Endsleigh? Being the student broker, they're used to gap year travellers.

If you want to work in Dive Centres down here, I would suggest getting some qualifications which may be of more use. BSAC is pretty much non existent here. The 2 main open water agencies are PADI and SSI

You will also need to get an AS2299.1 diving medical done here if instructing. ( Note that the recreation diving AS4005.1 medical which many doctors can do is not any use )

I suggest the divers alert network 'Basic Professional' package as a minimum requirement. See the link below (& the safety page on my website)

...& before this answer attracts the ...'oh no they're not!' from the usual corner i'll back it by stating that i'm a hyperbaric technician with over 1000hrs experience (over 200 patients)and have never known DAN to refuse to pay a claim!!
