Hi All,

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but i have just been asked to become the Dive Officer for my club. However, i want to check and clariffy my liabilities, and responsibilities?? there are a number of divers in the club who dive of there own boats and outside the club, so i am concerned about that, and also, as i live in Australia, a fair number of the club members are TDI trained rather then BSAC trained. so again, i am concerned about my responsibilities. Is there a clearly defined rulling somewhere??

Regards

Neil

Hi Neil,

First congratulations on being asked to be DO.

A starting point IMO is the Branch Officers’ Handbook, especially Part 3 http://www.bsac.org/page/50/3-running-a-branch.htm.

The TDI trained members are qualified divers and providing they are BSAC members and following Save Diving practices http://www.bsac.org/page/141/safe-diving.htm there shouldn’t be an issue.

Its exactly the same for those with their own boats.

Neil,

Since you live in Australia, the law is similar to but not the same as in England & Wales. I'd suggest you look to interpret the attached before getting too deep in the BOH. The Diving Definitions matrix was adopted by the NDC and has the authority of the NDO, whose delegate you become.
