Hi All,

Does anybody have any experience or suggestions for diving in Venezuela as I'll be staying on Margarita Island in June. Is it worth visiting Trinidad or Tobago for the diving?

many thanks

Although Margarita can be nice diving I have found that going to the offshore islets of Los Frailes usually makes for a better time. Los Frailes lie to the north has some nice reefs with good visability only about 15km offshore. Well made Peneros serve the area and often can be hired directly if you have a small group.

Trinidad and Tobago have nice dives when the Orinoco river is not in full flow which can cause viz to decline to less than acceptable levels. There are many drift drift dives so begining divers may want to use caution.

On the mainland, 4 hours to the south by ferry, is Mochima Park. It's a fairly large Park that is actually a submerged mountain range with many islands so there is quite a diversity of diving in the area. Might be an option if you have a week or more to dive.

Then of course there is always Los Roques which doesn't need an introduction I guess. (-; Very nice diving!
