View Full Version : Maldives Honeymoon
We are planning to go to the Maldives for our honeymoon 25th March 2005 for 2 weeks.
Can anyone please advise where they think the best resort is for possible whale shark/ manta sightings at that time of year???
Many thanks.

Hi,
We are off to the Maldives in March 2005 it will be our First Visit. We are going to Kuredu, which if all is to be believed then should be good; check out their web site www.kuredu.com

South Ari Atoll is supposed to be the best whale shark area in the Maldives. I can recommend Machchafushi Island Resort in that atoll as a small, intimate and very beautiful resort. I have taken dive groups there twice and will visit again. I have had many manta experiences in the Maldives during 19 visits, and as with whale sharks (I have never seen one) it is hit and miss as to whether they will be in your area when you visit. Enjoy your trip regardless of whether you see the big guys - you should have a wonderful dive experience.

I've just, this week, come back from White Sands Resort & Spa (it used to be called Ari Beach) on the south-east flank of the South Ari Atoll. Whales sharks, Mantas, Eagle Rays, tons of sharks, stunning Thilas, awesome overhangs, swims-through and caves, the works. If your honeymoon, grab a water bungalow! Oh, and book it through Kuoni!!!
Best time to go there for Whale Sharks is between March and May. This year they had 157 sightings in one month alone!
Good luck, congrats and enjoy.
HTH.

Bren.
Quick question...why do you say to book it through Kouni?
Thanks in advance

Hi Pete,
Simply because I've used Kuoni for every diving trip - bar one to South Africa - in the last 15 years and been treated like royalty on every one of them - including our honeymoon in 1999.
Cheers,
Bren.
