Have a go with this:

http://stoneytemps.calumscott.me.uk/

mean temperatures predicted by last year's trends for the whole year. Generally pretty accurate!

Not exactly to the point, but i found an image about Stoney and thought it was worth sticking on here for first timers there or anyone for that matter.

It's an old scan. The Stanegarth is roughly between the "N" on the compass and the wessex helicopter. There's an updated guide to the underwater features on the back of the entry registration form. Or just surface swim to the big buoy in the middle of the water and go down the line.

My computer said 6C at the hydrobox last night

My hands said -10C (must get some warmer gloved)

Though, we've got it easy - Moscow got -30C last night - its supposed to be coming our way!!!

I embarked on a little project of my own several years ago which may help everyone and would certainly be fascinating to check against.

I visited virtually all the BSAC dive clubs in Cumbria, including the SSAC. Including hundreds of my own readings off the computer.

One of the things I was interested in, was to see if there really was a difference in temperatures between large bodies of water and much smaller waters.
Shallow dives were more susceptible to fluctuations in temperature - deep dives past 30 metres showed greater stability in temperature although always winter down there so be advised herein. Also when around river mouths, these showed a cooler area of lake as opposed to being away from such areas. Bearing in mind that in the lake district, the rivers start as mountain streams where it is cooler as opposed to rivers running through flat areas of countryside at near sea level where they have time to pick up heat from the atmosphere.

It has always been a discussion topic.

I have the chart, it took two years to compile over a three year period, 4 readings per week from each of the lakes.

Sadly a hard drive crash took the raw data with it  but i had the actual graphic backed up :) - i know :(.

This is one of the resources on my Freshwaterdiver.com web site:- here it is:-

If this appears to small - goto http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/freshwaterdiver/ then select Bassenthwaite lake, scroll down to the lake map and click dive site 1 :)
