Hi.

Two BSAC members are planning to do a trimix CCR course in the Red Sea in the near future. The course will be a crossover not BSAC, if there is a problem over there with an diving related incident, would they still be covered with BSAC insurance, and how would they stand with diving related travel insurance, would they have to notify the relevant parties of the course etc which they will be doing?.

Ray, I dont think third part insurance will cut it abroad. I would advise a specific policy through someone like divemaster

I think that any reputable training company should have insurance for the course itself. But it would be wise to let the travel insurance company know the details of the course and if you intend to dive after qualification.

DAN covers you up to your qualification level automatically - so as soon as you pass you're covered to the new level/depth/gas.

Basic DAN is 48 quid but doesn't cover the "travel" aspect (losing gear, nicked gear etc.) It is valid worldwide and there is a worldwide emergency number. It also gives third party insurance the same as the BSAC cover so no need to worry about whether you're covered third party on the membership-included or not. (To be honest unless you are an instructor the 3rd party cover is pointless IMO, but Keith will be along soon to disagree :D)

Chris,
You need to check the ppO2 limit in the specific DAN cover as most are just up to 1.4, but then that is as well BSAC's limit. I am not sure what the other agencies limit is.

Check out www.buddyindepth.co.uk (http://www.buddyindepth.co.uk)

I have used them a couple of times but haven't had to make a claim.

The DAN cover limits you to 1.4 ATA O2 and 3.95 ATA N2 if you dive below 50m. Shallower than 50m you can use what you want as long as its not an hypoxic mix.

It is worth taking note of the N2 limit because the cost of He and the clear waters at some overseas locations encourages you to cut back on the mix.

I would reccomend speaking to the insurers and if there is ANY doubt get it put in writting.

Just to clarify DAN's PPO2 limit is 1.4 for bottom gas and 1.6 for deco.

I hadn't looked into the PPN2 so thanks for the info John.
