Heading off to Stoney next Saturday and want to spend as long in bed as possible but still get into waterside carpark. Does anyone know what time you had to arrive by to get into this car park yesterday?

That's right!

You have to be there yesterday to get into the waterside carpark!
(or at least that it what it feels like when you get up in time!)

I try not to get up at that time unless I'm getting paid for it , or the water tastes salty, so I have no recent direct experience to quote from.

I'm sure somone who has will be along soon to give you a time!

On 2nd Jan I arrived 30 mins before opening and there were ten spaces in the lower car park.
Jan Feb you should be OK if you arrive 8 ish. Better still arrive 11ish when people start to leave, you have plenty of time for two dives and a lie in.

I went down for a chat on Jan 2nd :) I got there just after 11am and was in the lower back carpark so I wouldn't count on hoping people will have left by then.

I am being told that you have to be there before 6am to guarantee the waterside carpark.

I am like John unless there is some salt in the water it just isn't worth getting out of bed :D

My next social / chatting visit is 25th Feb.

Sat 7th, I was queing at 6.30 before gates opened. spaces in bottom car park well after 9.30!

Apart from the snow, it qite enjoyable. As you know, I'm not really a puddle diver, in fact my last time there was 2 jan laqst year.

Pretty goodd vis, 10-15m loads of fishes including huge shoals of fry, even had a gull dive in the shoal!

Water was a toast 7deg!... not quite the same as the salty stuff, but made a reasonable substitute.

Its lottery, sometimes you get in and sometime you don't.

My general rule is IF I must go during a weekend or Bank Holiday then I will be there early, up to 2hrs ishish before it opens. I will then get a snooze and normally a place by the waterside.

Week days arriving on time you will normally get a waterside parking slot. :cool:
