At first sight it does not appear possible for instructors or those training to be instructors to purchase the student workbooks. I appreciate that these are reflected in (to some extent) the powerpoint presentations but as a principle, a teacher should know precisely what info the student has access to. For those that did their basic training sometime in the past, and/or trained with other agencies, an up-to-date copy of exactly what the student gets would be useful.

Not sure what the problem is. If you are a BSAC center, then you can buy
workbooks. If it's a club then the membership sec buys them.

Ok you cant get hold of them as a solo, non-club Instructor, but you cant
teach as that anyway.

Just ask your membership sec for a pack.

Apparently you can't get them as a Direct member either. Interesting thing is that any member, regardless of grade, can buy the instructor manual including the test papers and answers with no problem at all

I think you might be stuggling with how some of BSAC works.

Reason that a Direct member cant buy one is that they dont need to.
Training is only via a School or a Club and in both instances there is an
establised route to get student notes.

Interesting Terry, maybe you could explain then why, as a direct member, I can buy the Instructor cd manuals, and attend SDCs and an Advanced Diveer theory weekend run by SE region. In fact, it appears to be possible to do everything except read the theory notes that BSAC want you to read. Also worth noting that BSAC will sell the notes to anyone at the dive shows with no check on wether your even a member.

Can we not have a another BSAC direct bashing thread please?

Assuming you are genuine - I appreciate your desire to keep up to date, if you are a convenient distance from me, show me a copy of your current BSAC qualifications and membership and I'll get you a set of notes up to your current grade, it's as easy as that.

Alternatively, join my branch, at £10 + BSAC subs we are as cheap as BSAC direct anyway and you get a real diving officer who can sign your training off :-)
