Is there any scope for snorkelling with the seals in the farnes - obviously diving there is great but Im taking a non diving group near seahorse camping and thought it would be a nice day activity. All swim well and have snorkelled before but are there any small boats that are willing to take out just snorekellers?
Hope someone can help.
Thanks:cool:

Hi Annakin,

Never been out with a snorkelling only group, but I have been diving round the Farnes lots of times, from both hardboats and club RIB's etc.

I would recommend that you get in touch with Will Shiel, although there are others !!

I have dived the Farnes many times and one of the best occassions was being dropped in with snorkels. The seals seems were keen to come up close to investigate. I would suggest that due to the current it was not for the inexperienced swimmers.

Any good skipper will not drop you in where its running
Unless that is what you want :) :) :)

I do not think this is anything to worry about. Yes I have done drift dives around the Farnes, and I have done LOTS more where there was little or no movement.

Just tell the skipper what you want :)

Go for a snorkel in the Bush- the bay shaped area in the SE corner of the Longstone. You have to go at high ish tide as the bay bit dries out at low tide. A seal colony sits there and the pups play in the shallows. Perfect for snorkelling as it's sheltered whichever way the tide is running, it's only a few meters deep and you know you are too far out as there is a cliff that drops away straight down to about 25m.
