How about as green as green can be.
in my dreams.
I think you may like this.(NOT)
I am in the middle of trying to buy oil for a hydraulic power pack for powering underwater tools.
So far so good a load of suppliers out there for this.
Ok, I explain what we are doing with it, and there is a deathly silence at the other end of the phone.
Followed by yes sir no problem.
(now were cooking the gas I think)
wrong.
What we want is a biodegradable oil “yes sir no problems there”, ok send me the specs on it.
WHY? is the reply
Well bursting a hose ( if when it should occur hope never) and having to clean everything is one thing, but killing every thing in the vicinity during the process is another.
Is there any one out there that know’s more.
Contacted shell and most of the other major producers nothing.
Yes, we have gone rape seed oil, but they are not sure if it will damage the seals on the pump.
Help any one.
i have spent 3 months on this to no evail.
if there is anyone in the know i can send you the spec sheets.
is it any wonder that people cannot be bothered with green as i could have been up a running now as in 3 months ago.

Steve,
I don't really understand what you are looking for - perhaps you could clarify? As I understand it you want an oil that you can use for a hydraulic system, and is fully biodegradable in sea water?
I don't think that I'll be able to help, but if you clarify your request someone here might be able to help you.
cheers, and good luck,
Ben

Fair enough. I'm afraid my only advice would be to google for 'biodegrable hydraulic oil marine', but that does bring up these guys:
http://www.hyphose.com/oilhydraulic.htm
who might be able to help.
Apologies if this is teaching grandmother to suck eggs.

funny that mmm.
but even if they are using bio oil for all the right reasons.
having read a number of spec sheets etc on the oils around not all are as green as you would expect.
its a bit of a shock, or stuppidty on my behalf, thinking all bio would be good green green.
its not by what i have read.

mmmm indeed
We looked at doing the home brew bio-diesel thing and were told no way by the authorities.
Not even paying the tax etc,,,,
So its no surprise that the state controlled petroleum company has the word "monopoly" in its name !:(

What problem did you have with bio-diesel?
No need to ask authirities anyhting, just make it, fill out the tax form to register yourself and send them a cheque every now and then.
No different to keeping a vat of vegetable oil in your shed.
'Course if we all used it we would have to plant the whole world with oil seed and have nowhere left to grow food, but you can't win all the time.
