Tony,
Welcome!
I am also a father of 2 living with my lover (cough!) ...though I am married to her!
I too am learning to dive ...have been learning since 1985 and hope to continue learning until I hang my fins up! (it IS bloody good fun isn't it?)
I have yet to experience the thrills of the Scylla...and will try to do so in 2006! (perhaps we'll meet there?)
Whilst in Plymouth you must visit Cap'n Jaspers for one of their yard long hotdog and diesel tea suppers! (It might make you poorly, or is that the extra beer?, - but a meal at Cap'n Jaspers is a widely accepted diving MUST. You ain't dived Plymouth until you've eaten with Cap'n Jasper!)
There is coral in the UK...some of it soft and some of it hard...but all of it fairly little in comparison to what you generally see on the telly. Where are you planning to go coral diving? (check it out at the BSAC Travel Club! - or go there for ideas?)
Job application?...for the position of a BSAC diver...you got it mate (have fun with it!) You did realise that diving is a money pit (and not a money pot) didn't you?
Rambling on.... well - not yet! (but after a few more dives you'll get the hang of it!)
Did I say "welcome"?
All the best
John

blimey are you talking about Capn Jaspers down by the old seafront on the old part of town? Small shack? Used to get huuuge baguette type things with the full english in them back in 1990/91 when a mate from school was studying down there
Very happy they are still there!

Actually ...I've not dived the South Coast for a number of years so cannot comment on currency of Capn Jaspers...but YES...that's the place!
You recognised the yard long butties and diesel tea then?
Told you diving was FUN! (sometimes the stuff underwater is fun too!)
