Seasearch photography course 24/25th March 2007
Seasearch are a registered conservation charity, this is a non-profit course.
Seasearch are running a photography course on 24th/25th March 2007. The course will be run in Bruckless Community centre, Donegal (in Bruckless, near Killybegs) with two dives on St. John's point. The point has some of the best shore diving in Ireland; Limestone walls drop down to 30m and crevices host many potential photographic subjects. Lectures will cover photographic principles, wide angle and macro techniques, and using your photography in biological survey work. There will be two dives on the point to practice your skills and time is allocated after the dives to go over your photographs with the tutors and get advice on specific problems. The course is suitable for beginner or intermediate photographers, you will need to bring your own camera.

Tutors are Nigel Motyer and Bernard Picton. Nigel Motyer is an internationally acclaimed Irish based underwater photographer. He took up diving in 1985 and became involved with photography a couple of years later. He has travelled widely for his photography but is still at his happiest when working in Irish waters. His credits include "National Geographic" and "Dive" magazine, his feature on Irish marine life was published recently in Dive's October issue. (See http://www.divemagazine.co.uk/news/article/mps/UAN/3186/V/2/SP/332495698256330333486).
Bernard Picton is Curator of Marine Invertebrates at the Ulster Museum. He has over 30 years of experience of underwater photography, often using photography as a tool for his marine survey work. He is especially keen on macro photography and his photographs of marine life have been used in many publications, including his own on Echinoderms and Nudibranchs. His photos form the basis of his website Encyclopedia of Marine Life of Britain and Ireland http://www.umsciences.org.uk/marinelife/

The course is suitable for all photographers – both SLR and compact cameras, digital and film. Divers should be qualified to a minimum of BSAC sports diver, PADI Advanced Open Water, or CMAS 2 star and have a minimum of 20 dives, with 10 in the UK or other temperate waters. The cost for the course is £100. Please contact Claire Goodwin (Seasearch NI co-ordinator) on claire.goodwin@gmail.com or 07786 356099 for further information.
