I've been asked to take on the role of OWI/AI Mentor for the North West Region, and will be running some workshops leading up to the exams.

If anyone in NW or Yorkshire areas is interested in taking part, then please post and contact me by PM so I can arrange the training days. (divers from other regions are also welcome to attend)

Thanks

Steve

Just to put some info for Yorkshire in here.

We have our own PIE prep events on 5th May and 8th Sept 2007. Book via me. Cost £30 for the day. Likely venue is Blue Lagoon. Places filling up fast, already got 6 bookings.

We have a tried as tested model for these events now and we are now running on 100% pass rate for those who have taken their PIE after a prep event.

If anyone if interested in AI prep give me a shout and I will put you onto the person who is sorting it out.

When, where, how?????????

I am Jeddah based and Eqypt is a good option for BSAC training as here in Saudi the only NI is basically inactive.

Any details on SDC & technical BSAC & instructor training is welcome.

Khaled,

BSAC is running a "crossover" event here in Sharm at the end of March for those PADI Instr's who want to be BSAC qual'd as well- it's being staffed by Mike Clack and Sophie Rennie, seeing as I live here Mike has offered to do my AI at the same time. You could consider sending him an email and asking if you can tag along!!!!

As for SDC's etc, we are a BSAC school and can cover some of them for you but not all as certain stuff (like buoyage for instance) doesn't exist here!!!

Regards

Steve

I ran the first of the OWI preps on Sat 17th, with 5 preppers,

We had a great day, despite the water temp being quite cold. Hopefully everyone learned a lot and will be looking forward to the next session.

I will also be running a pool session to demonstrate the progressions for each lesson. If anyone is interested in attending PM me. The date will be Wed 14th Mar, 9pm Cost will be £5 towards our club fund.

Guys,

Thought it might be useful to endorse Steve's comments regarding the recent PIE preparation session at Ecclestone Delph and for me to PERSONALLY RECOMMEND these type of sessions for Asst Instructors looking to take the PIE exam.
This first session comprised of around 90 minutes classroom theory reinforcing many of the concepts already learned on the IFC and OWIC. This led into a lengthy open water session in which all students in turn, had to present a 45 minute lesson from a range of lessons previously listed on the OWIC.
I found the day extremely informative with Steve's ongoing commentary and evaluation of our lessons a big help in consolidating my own approach.
As stated, I would encourage other 'PIE preppers' to get in touch with Steve with a view to benefiting from these training sessions.

I am interested in doing the IFC (I note you are talking about workshops for AI and/or OWI), but being based in West Cumbria I don't know whether we fall under "North West" area or "North East" area - i see the dates for North West area are 24th/25th November 2007 in liverpool (150 miles away!) and 2nd/3rd February 2008, and that there are dates in North East area on 19th/20th January..

Am I correct in thinking the IFC is classroom based and doesn't involve getting wet?

I will pm you my email address also.

Allan

There is no 'prep' for an IFC, we like to get you fresh out of the box:) .
The IFC is a two day event, a mix of classroom & pool.
