Happy new year Guys. I am hopeing to plan a trip to Gib for a few of us from our club,by the way of an extended weekend or 5 day trip this year. I have seen various reports, but what are your experiences as a diving destination? Thanks people.

They are based in LaLinea (On the Spanish side). OK We could not do the wrecks around Gib early 2004 as there were restictions in force, post 9/11. But we did do a superb wreck in about 8m and some scenic dives around the coast. Their RIB was driven a bit fast for my liking. But was my first introduction to RIB diving and diving overseas.

Our club has been using them for several years, which says plenty about the quality of service. 6m to boat from the shop, bar next door.
I was last there May 2005 for two days diving, very nice wrecks, we had 25c and sunshine weather, and 19c in the water, lots of wildlife.
I think there are 4 flights a day to Gib - 2 Monarch flights from Luton, and BA do two flights.
For a budget hotel try the Cannon Hotel, clean and basic.

I can recomend them too. I've been with them on 3 ocassions and booked a weeks package on each.

One thing to think about though is that on 2 of the 3 times I've been there the border has had some disruption. Once it was closed for a few days and on the other ocassion the Spannish authorities seem to have induced a deliberent 3 hour delay for vehicle traffic. Could be a problem if your staying in Spain (normally cheaper) and diving from Gib. Maybe we were just unluckly though??

It's quite a short runway on Gib. If you look out the window you'll see one that didn't quite make it  .....o well another dive site. ;)

Hi All,

you will never forget the first impression of seeing the rock though.

What about the BSAC school of Fred Short at Rock Marine - still there?

I did AI there and found it pretty good stuff on Gib.

Iain

Yes I would reccomend these guys : Used them in June 2005--went over for a week to visit my Son who was posted there for a while :-)
Nice operation-very Freindly--i had a slight problem--i asked for Nitrox and although they said they had it--when i got there--they could not supply--problems with supplier or something :-(
But i enjoyed the dives and the crews--and the service, i would use again.

Six of us went in December last year with these guys; one of the package deals that cost about £220. Steve, the slightly nutty guy that runs the centre, is one of the group that has been involved in putting the artificial reefs in around Gib, so he's well worth supporting.
We stayed in the Hotel Caletta, around the East side of the rock. It's a cab ride away from the dive centre (about £5 for a large cab).

We enjoyed it so much that 12 of us are going in March for a pre-season opener.
