View Full Version : Bone density?
I had an opperation done to my right femur 15 years ago.The reason this is important is that they might have to go back into the bone (right in the middle of it) and remove a leasion. It was not cancerous, but yet it took ten years for it to completely heal. if they do it again it will not be as extensive as the last one, but will iclude drilling a whole into the bone to remove the leasion. So here is the question, How long would it take before I could dive?:(

There is not enough information in your question, but thoughts from what you say:
The amount of bone drilled out will determine the risk of a fracture from falling, etc, purely as a mechanical moving about aspect independent of scuba activity - you may be on a slippery boat. Ask your surgeon about this risk.
Your wounds must be soundly healed, and you should have a reasonable degree of muscle function, with a reasonable amount of knee bending (if you trip with a stiff knee you might break even a normal femur. A six week healing time is reasonable before diving again, on those grounds.
Your bone lesion's diagnosis needs to be factored in.
I do not know of any good evidence that bone surgery increases the risk of a DCI hit at the site (and if bends are primarily neurological events, perhaps you are at little or no extra risk).
For a proper and full answer you need to discuss the matter with a medical referee who has been told your full medical background - discuss this with your own surgeon first, and then run the answer by a diving doctor (your orthopod may not know about diving).
