Hi,

I did some snorkelling whilst on my last couple of holidays and I am now really hooked and want to get properly trained. The problem is I haven’t really done much swimming since I was at school (many years ago!) and don’t how good I need to be. I have looked on a number of club sites and haven’t really found anything apart from a swimming assessment forms part of the Basic Snorkel Diver Course. Can anybody tell me what the assessment consists of and whether this differs between clubs?

The plan is to concentrate on improving my swimming before joining a local club in the summer.

Any advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Many of us are not good swimmers Robin, you will not be alone.

The assessment is 200m freestyle in basic swimming costume. No fins etc. There is no time limit, although it should be completed comfortably and with ease. It should not differ with in BSAC branches.

Practice will help.

Adrian

Edit - just noticed this is in Snorkelling :o. I have mentioned the swim assessment for Scuba courses.
