What type of second hand hub? I did find a hub which I think may be off a ford escort in the street today. Yours for £50 if you are interested.

Assuming you're talking a Mares Hub and not a wheel hub (:rolleyes:) then it depends very much on what you plan to do. If you think that kit will suit your diving for quite a long time then maybe go for it (but compare it to what you can get buying things separately). Their massive drawback is if you ever want to upgrade... you can't do that every easily. Its all one big unit, designed to work together.

I've never used one myself, although an old buddy had one and we had a lot of fun with it. It had one of those remote dump valve things, and one press of it would make a lovely "poosh" noise, and it somehow emptied the entire BC in under a second! Funny on the surface, but not necessarily the best design for a dump valve. There might also be problems with damage going unnoticed as hoses etc are hidden deep inside the BC, which might cause problems later.

IIRC the Mares hub has much of it's pipework housed inside the backpack. Not a good place for a quick swap of a hose, even if the fittings were the same, which I'm told they are not.
