I am new to diving and am ready to buy my reg set. However I don’t have much to compare them with, as the only regs I’ve ever used are the old school regs.

I was leaning towards the Apex ATX or XTX200 and tried them in a shop today but was surprised to find it sill had a bit of resistance on breathing even with the lever set to plus and the control knob wide open. I was particularly surprised, as someone on this forum said this reg almost force-feeds you with air.

Can someone tell me if a little resistance is normal as like I said above, I’m new and can’t really compare these regs with anything.

Comments please.

Hi Ivan

Buy them and go diving, they are excellent regs. Trying these in a shop is no real test, you need to use them and adjust them to your own preferances. Thes regs can be tuned as fine as you like, but that would be too much!

May I recommend the at-depth regulator comparison tests that we have done? You can find them archived on www.divernet.com under Equipment and then go to Comparison Tests. Not many people get the chance to try a lot of different regulators under water and side-by-side in identical conditions.

I've been using the Apeks XTX200 today and found it to be very easy to breath, when compared against The Aqualung Legend LX Supreme, on the same dive, which in itself is a very good reg

Go buy one, and enjoy. It comes with interchangeable exhausts which is a unique touch, and can be swapped in about 20 seconds for a smaller one by pressing a buton to release
