The Kaafjord Expeditions in 1974 and 1976, lead by Peter Cornish, went to Norway to search for the miniature submarine HMS X5 that was lost with all hands in an attack on the German battleship Tirpitz in 1943. The scene of this action was Kaajord in north Norway.

Most recently covered in the BBC Timewatch film 'The Lost Heroes', the disappearance of X5 has remained one of the greatest mysteries in the history of the Royal Navy

I have been tracking down the expedition members with a view to organising a reunion and update on our researches which have continued over the last 30 years. Most members have been found but I am still searching for the following. Can anyone help?

Graham Harris
Peter Dines
Lindsey Cole - an Australian
Dave Stewart - from North Ireland
Ms Toni Bove Bacino - an American lady
Wayne Bennett - an American ex USAF

Hi John

It would be interesting to hear a bit more about the X5 and the exped that you were on. If you have time a review would be great

Steve,

Interest appreciated but u will have to wait as want to hold reunion b4 going public. There's a bit in the official history of the BSAC by Reg Vallintine who was involved tho' one of the pix is wrongly captioned.

I know where Wayne Bennett is, as I am his daughter. I have been looking for the English article of 1974 to view.

Hi Wayne,

John Harris, has not visited these forums for around 18 months. You could try sending a PM to him to see if he responds.

One of the highlights of OZTeK'07 was a presentation by Carl Spencer about the on-going search for X5 and the - then - recent expedition that he and Leigh Bishop, with the support of the RN, had made.

It was a fascinating story, not least for the fact that - apparently - had the X5 been found, and had it been discovered without its side cargo of HE, then it would have been assumed to have attacked the Tirpitz and a posthumous VC been in the offing for its skipper, Australian, Henty-Creer.

Yes I know Carl made this presentation and I was in regular touch with him unitl his sad demise last year on Britannic.

Although he told the story you mentioned it has now been proved wrong and X5 was not and still has not been found.
