ok In my welcome post I mention that hopefully I will be able to get some feedback on an idea I am developing for my university final year dissertation in mechanical engineering.

the basic idea is to adapt sat diving equipment for use on board a submarine as a submerged live aboard (this is thoery only i aint going to build it, yet) for recreational divers.

no unfortuantly it appears that finding the saturation time for divers at any depth is hard enough but very shallow (for sat stuff) is imposible to find.

is there any way i can extrapolate the tables to discover it or does anyone have any info on the following depths/ saturation time amd with any luck the total decompresison times as well. i know the RATE of decompression but even after printing and skim reading the ENITRE US navy dive manual i cant find a thing in it.

depths im looking at are:

30m

40m

50m

ta for any assitannce given it will be noted and stated as such in my work

Saturation times are generally given as six half-times for each compartment. Off the top of my head, the slowest compartment is the 720 minute comaprtment, so you'd be looking at three days to saturate that!

OTOH, the fastes tissues have a half time of around 5mins, so 30 mins to saturation.

Saturation is independent of depth.

I presume that coming up after a sat dive will take a long time. Perhaps it could be done overnight?

im not looking at independat tissue values (although they would be usefull to include) im looking at whole body times.

the general idea would be to decompress overnight on a 16 hour session.

thank you mind all help is apreciated

16 hours is not going to be long enough - if you are talking 3 days to saturate you are going to take three days to desat. Your body can take a certain amount of over pressure but not too much. Also by playing around with different gases you can further cut the time but that will increase the problems of oxygen toxicity. You are therefore unlikely to be able to surface in less than a couple of days

The whole body will saturate in the time it takes the longest tissue to saturate.

Maybe worth you reading the "Decompression Theory Links" off this site. It includes links to details about Buhlmann, M values, half times and so on which is exactly what you want.

A basic but sensible introduction can also be found in the padi divemaster book and encyclopaedia (i know this is a bsac forum but the documentation there is far better in this instance).

thank you for that, i will spend my xmas "break" reading up on it from the links.

oftern for me it is mearly a nudge in the right direction i require not outright information
