Last time I was in Christchurch a few years ago, there was a great guy running a dive operation out there called Dive Works or Dive Werks. Guy was called Russ and used to take people in his transport to Kaikura and link up with a guy there with a boat and a diving hostel for weekend trips. Russ is a great guy, I would recommend checking him out for tips etc. he had a fully servicable set up there too. if you need his details let me know and I'll dig them out for you.

Let us know how you get on...I am trying to start a club modeled loosely along the lines of BSAC up in Auckland...would be interested to see if you get hammered by cranky dive shops:p

I can recommend a few good dive shops on the shore & up towards Leigh & tutakaka :) Lived on the shore for a couple of years.
