What would you like to see in the BSAC forum?
How do you think it can be improved?
For those who just look:cool: but never contribute to discussions, what would make you post and get involved.:D
How would you go about recruiting new members to the forums?
Cmon we'd like to hear your ideas and views, after all it's your forum, for you to use. We want you to get involved so tell us what you want.
would you prefer to be using an anonymous name rather than your real one, is that what's stopping you from posting?
let's make this the best online forum for diving, but we need you to help us do it
Steve
get HQ to send out an e-mail to members it has an e-mail of - cant beleive this cant be done in 10 minutes unless their IT systems are that bad
Article in Dive for those who dont have e-mail?
I would definitely go with the "Username" rather than real name. Let people put their real names in the profile, if they like.
That's what the rest of the Internet does. Let's not try to rewrite the rules, eh?

That's called Unsolicited Bulk Email. It makes you very unpopular in a very short space of time...

It's not a technical issue, it's a privacy thing. Spamming members is an antisocial thing to do, and may well be illegal. It'll definitiely get us onto a number of blocklists, anyway.

That's a better idea.
But if we reall y want to attract people here, we need to think carefully about why they might want to come; we need to identify the real, tangible benefits that our members will get by joining these fora. Having access to BSAC "top brass" might well be one such advantage (but I suspect NDC and Council will quickly get snowed under if we start guaranteeing anything). Just having somewhere to chew the fat probably isn't much of a benefit - those that want this already have it, those that don't want it aren't interested.
Vic.
fair goes on the first 2 points Vic, well explained

The nearest thing to an opt-in email list we have is BSAC Talk,
http://www.bsac.org/services/talk/index.html
and there was an article or the forum system heading up the message this month. More PR is planned, but I think Keith is better placed to talk about that.

I think some kind of HO request board for issues would go down well, I know that I do not view this Forum as HO, but they could do well by reading some of this if they want to improve things. Especialy their communication with queries.
Trips and training oppertunities would be good to, then you could dive with BSAC members and also get access to training which may be happening right next to you in a local club, you just did not know?
As an example to this, I have gone diving with several people from YD who live within 10 minuits of me, but I would never have known them otherwise.
There may alos be oppertunities for new clubs to form in areas so far unrepresented. E.G. There are several in St. Helens and Warrington near me, but none in Wigan? although there are a couple further north in Chorley.

I think this forum is (and always has been) for matters pertaining to BSAC diving and for general communication between BSAC members. There are other (some would say better :D) fora for general diving discussion and chit-chat.
The BSAC forum (both this and the old one) have had some very good debates about BSAC related material and things that are affected by BSAC's role as the sport's governing body.
I quite like it how it is.

You can!
Click on an active member on the home page and view their profile, it will tell you where they are.

yes I no that, but on YD the people who are viewing the thread or replying to it, are shown at the bottom of the page, I find this is quite handy especially if I choose to PM them instead of replying on line,

I would like to see who is viewing individual threads at any given time.I've turned it on for you Ray - have a look at the display at the bottom of the thread! It can affect performance, if it slows us down too much we'll have to turn it off :)
