Hi. I am a fishing guide on the south coast. I am a non-diver, mainly because the one time I tried it in Turkey, I couldnt equalise, tried too hard, and ended up with squirts of blood drifting around my ears! Kind of put me off. Plus when I looked around and saw the rest ofthe group heading down what looked like the Abyss, I sh*t myself and wanted out. I realised why I am an Angler!! Loved the little Moray eels sticking their heads out of their holes at 5 meters though! However, we share a very big common interest, and that is to preserve the stocks of fish around our seas, before it is too late and the stocks collapse to unrecoverable levels, as has already been seen around the world. To this effect I have posted a link to a direct petition to the PM, to lobby for the creation of NO TAKE ZONES around the UK, in line with ICES scientific advice, in the forum GENERAL DIVING CHAT. This petition is for the greater good of everyone, even commercial fisherman, although they are inclined to oppose change quite vigorously. Please have a look, and make up your own mind if you wish to add your name to the petition.

Hi. I don't see a link?

I am a firm believer in fishing exclusion zones to enable some local recuperation. I'm not sure how they help species like cod which don't spawn(?) in our waters?

Anyway, anything is better than nothing.

Hi Bryan. The link is in the General Diving Chat forum, as I hope it will get more exposure there. Not sure where you picked up the info about cod not spawning in UK waters though. Here is an interesting link on Cod, scientific advice, spawning grounds and Goverments not listening. The petition is an opportunity to make them listen. Cheers, Robin.

Faulty knowledge/assumption ...... I thought they were arctic spawned and migrated through UK waters. I can't even remember where I thought I learned that ................ still, that's no big surprise! :)
