View Full Version : Jogging and Diving
Hi I've been diving for 7 years now last month I decided to start doing some jogging to gain a bit of fitness can anyone tell me if jogging interferes in diving especially after doing a deco dive
Thanks

Avoid unnecesary exercise directly after a dive as this can contribute towards the risk of DCI occuring.
I would personally refer this to diving in general and not just deco dives, however in general the more loaded with N2 you are the greater the risk.
Exercise after a dive is thought to be bad. Although, as ever with diving, there is a lot of theory and not so much evidence.
I don't know of many people who think that exercise *before* diving is bad though.

Jogging after a dive is obviously not sensible although exercise up to twelve hours before diving aids you statistically in the prevention of DCS. (I am not saying do a ten mile run, do a silly dive and then you will not get bent.) This observation was in a report I read a little while ago.
As others have said it is not advisable to go jogging after diving
but if you insist on doing it you will find it easier if you remove your fins

Certainly some excercise is possibly usefull prior to diving, but not so much as to leave you dehydrated or fatigued. It is said that VERY light excercise during a decostop may help offgassing. But nearly everyone agrees that excercise after a dive is a no no. How long after though is only a guess, but certainly no less than 8-12 hours. Look at fitness for Divers by Cameron L Martz.

Hi
I used to run marathons, I neaver had any ill effects (except being knakered for two weeks after )
I neaver dived after training or the two weeks after a marathon.
It did my gas consumption the world of good :D also general fitness was good.
I also belive that the imune system was better for it as it seems that I had less colds/flu
Just take it easy at first as the tendons will be worked and you dont want them spliting lugging heavy dive gear around
I did give running up as it took time from diving !!

Asked a friend of mine who is a national veteran cycle racing champion and trainer, his advice was that any form of training that causes muscular damage is bad with regard to nitrogen uptake and off gassing. Following strenuous activity the muscle is in a state of repair which has a noticable effect on the rest of the body.
So the bottom line seems to be that if it hurts wait several days till it is fixed before diving.
