After signing up to a direct full snorkelling membership, i am now in doubt that i have signed to the right one. there is not a lot of help and advice when you are looking. i have been a snorkeler for 3 years and have decided to try and get qualifications for it and then progress to scuba. not sure which is the best branch to go into or where my local ones are.(except Guinea gap)

Help

Hi Allan,

the simple reality is that no one will ever ask you about snorkelling qualifcations; SCUBA qualifcations are asked about if you are hiring kit, doing guided dives (willingly or otherwise) or something that is new to you. BSAC Direct usefulness can and should be questioned and with increasing qualifications more and more so. At some point you will ask yourself I get a 3rd party insurance, a very expensive magazine of varying and sometimes appalling quality and removal of my teaching licence. I think we need to review snorkelling and apnoe diving in the club and what we teach at a fundamental level. We need to do the same in some other areas too as the sport and the original intentions of the club were different from what we get to see now.

My own BSAC Direct membership runs out in December and I cannot find a good reason to renew. An automatic conclusion for me at least.

regards
Iain
