For the first time since i started diving earlier this year I have had trouble clearing my left ear. I have tried a couple of different techniques at various depths but to no avail. It feels like I have water in there. Any suggestions please?

When you say "it feels like there is water in there", do you mean all the time or just when attempting to clear? If it's all the time, definitly go and see a doctor.

Otherwise, for some more exotic earclearing methods, have a look on the Dive Instruct website:

cheers,

Ben

Try no. 9 if you're having difficulty clearing one side. Works for me.

Good lord! Don't everyone answer at once, make room for the guy, give him some air!
Or should that be nitrox? :D

Ear clearing as in equalising pressure or water in the ears?
If you've been at various depths and not equalised you'd suffer a lot of pain....

Conversely I still have water in my ears from the pool last night. I really must get them dewaxed soon. It's nothing to worry about.

Yes ear clearing as in equalising the pressure. But I shall try the suggestions from the link others have suggested.

One thing I forgot to add.
Don't, whatever you do, overblow if it won't clear easily.
A round window barotrauma is definitely not recommended.

Sorry ...couldn't resist!

....as opposed to a square window (or even an arched window) barotrauma.

Neither of those are "playschool" either though!

just recently, after a dive, i can feel air coming out through my eye. any explanations as to why. doesnt affect equalising at all though during a dive.

Your tear duct is connected to your oro-nasal passages.
You might also find occasionally that when you yawn you get tears appearing, and sometimes when your eyes are dry, blowing your nose can help. I expect this clears the tear ducts and helps to lubricate the eyes. I wear contact lenses and this often helps at the end of the day when my eyes dry up a bit.

I once knew a bloke who could blow smoke out through his tear duct - only on one side though... Not that I'd recommend trying it. :D

Hi
Try sleeping with two pillows it helps to drain any liquid on the inside of the ear.
I had something similar and it worked for me
