Hello
I have a Dive Leader trainee who has access to the training CD and he thought it would be good revision do the three theory exams on it.
I've just called the Mail Shop to get a fresh exam for him to sit for real but I've been told that there are only the three on the CD and they can't do me another paper.
It doesn't seem fair on the others sitting the exam to let him do a paper he's already seen. This must be a common enough problem especially at DL and AD level. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
Chris
Hi all ,
Why not just create your own picking questions off all three papers to create a forth and give it this person . I know its going to take time and effort but it seems the only logical way forward , unless you can find someone who could write a completely new one from scratch .

I think I would change (and check) a few numbers along the way, swap things around etc.

....but whatever you decide to do - please send a copy of the finished article to the BSAC shop for them to pass out to other branches who fall into the same quandary!
(If others had done this before yoiu then you'd not have the same problem...because the shop would have had lots!)
Isn't that what being part of a club is all about?

I have had this problem in the past. Some SD's/DL's go do the IFC and then go out and order the Instructors manual. Fair enough, but it does give them
the advantage of seeing the paper they are going to sit if they further thier
grades.
The only way to solve this anomaly is to 'tweek' the numbers in the questions and effectively customise the paper- make sure you do the paper or questions
first and double-check that your are answers are correct -:)
I think the best (or worst example) I was told about, was a club where a prospective AD managed to convince the DO he should sit the AD theory
exam. The student then passed with 100% & without actually attending any of the theory lessons.

Hi Chris
I'd do as suggester regarding swapping no.s etc, but I would not make up my own questions as they could be harder/easier than those sat across the rest of the country? If you want to be on the safe side though, there is nothing to stop you doing a brief aditional oral test to make sure they understand, as you know they have access to the paper, this would be a reasonable request unless you got silly with it in the detail.

In my opinion, whats the point in cheating ?? its a hobby after all, surely any trainee at any level would get far more personal satisfaction from passing the exams fairly and without having memorised a sequence of answers A,A,B,C,A,D B etc etc. If they are going to cheat it is only themselves they are fooling. If you cannot be bothered to learn things correctly there is likely to be a time when it all goes hopelesely t**s up and you find yourself wishing that you had learnt something important rather than just that the answer to question 15 was "C" because the important bit might save your life whereas "C" is just the third letter in the alphabet and unlikely to be of any use to help you. So my point being why be over worried about cheats, it will most likely all catch up with them eventually (hopefully not fately) but more likely when a lesser qualified diver asks them a question expecting the correct answer, when what they actually get it an answer that confirms to everyone within hearing distance that the person has not got a clue what they are on about and are as stupid as everybody suspected.

Agreed, but in my experience people always go for the easy option.
As the CD is available to all who pay for it, both members & non members, shouldn't we be setting our own exams to ensure the point has got through :(
