Hi.

We have a number of members in our branch who would like to do the boat handling course. Unfortunatley we don't have a boat. If you have a course but have spaces on it. Please drop me a line. We are based on the London Essex boarder but can can travel within a reasonable distance.

Any help will be greatfully recieved.

Cheers.

Tim

Do they want to do only the BSAC course?

If not have you looked at the Southend Marine Activities Centre? They run the RYA Powerboat courses: http://www.southendmarineactivitiescentre.co.uk

They also do Day Skipper Theory and SRC courses over the winter months, I'm probably going to do a SRC on the 11th Feb if anyone else at the branch is interested.

Hi Tony.

Have been asked a number of times by club members. Have checked out the RYA at Fairlop Waters.

The aspect of picking divers out of the water is a different course "Safety sports cover" I think. This can only be done after stages I + II.

As we don't have a Rib / Boat, we can't attend the BSAC courses unless we fit in with another club. Hence the plea for any vacancies.

Hi Tim,

We run BH courses down at Burnham on Coruch over the winter months. How many people do you have who want to do the course? Its a morning theory plus a day and a half out on the RIB. great fun. PM if you want any further details, I'm sure we can help you out.

Cheers

A RYA Powerboat Level II Certificate is acceptable for a SALT for the BSAC Boat Handling Course, if that's sufficient and what the guys are after, but it has to be undertaken at a coastal RYA centre. Fairlop Waters obviously isn't coastal so that wouldn't do but Southend is.

There are man overboard procedures in the level II course which I'm told equate to diver recovery but it's covered in greater depth in the RYA Safety Boat Course.

The Safety Boat Course doesn't get you a SALT to BSAC's Diver Cox'n Assessment though, as you're probably aware that SDC is completely separate. If that's what the guys are after then it'll have to be a BSAC SDC.

Paul's branch's SDC looks to be ideal and local if it's specifically just the BSAC BH the guys want.

HTH.

Hi.

Fairlop do the power boat at the coast. The theory can be done nearer, plus some people may want to do more including the sailing parts. Having looked at the contacts I think many would want to do the BSAC courses.

I am not sure if things have changed now but I did my RYA 2 powerboat in land (Grafham Water) and was crossed over the BSAC Boat handling without a problem.
