Does anyone know of what qualification or qualifications you need to be able to use a rebreather. Most of the agencies run courses for specific units as the bailout drills, the important things to learn, can differ quite seriously.

Also we talk about Mod 1: basic air (40m), Mod 2: normoxic trimix (60m) and Mod 3: hypoxic trimix (100m) levels of training.

BSAC are rolling out courses but I did TDI and IANTD. The bulk of the course is the same no matter where it comes from but expect to take a week doing the first course including 5 hours or so in the water, much of it 'flying' the rig manually managing simulated fault conditions.

The BS-AC course also includes a lot on integrating the diving of CCR into the branch.
But all the drills are the same...

In theory you could learn to dive on an RB without any other dive badge. However, most people don't start this way. For SCR a basic dive ticket is adequate and you will need Nitrox and a good understanding of Nitrox theory (more than the BSAC Basic)

IANTD allow SCR with a basic trox ticket, CCR required Adv. EAN (BSAC ERD).

PADI's Draeger Ray is OW + EAN.

You need therefore to check out for the specific unit you are interested in and the training organisation you intend to use.
