Having been to the Red Sea in Jan and July 06, I would be interested to go somewhere different in January 2007. Does anyone know any where I can obtain a reasonable deal and suggest where to go.

January is high season in a lot of parts of South East Asia, e.g. Thailand with the Similans, so that could be an option. Too early in the year for the Carribean I think, but also Africa may be an option.

Hi Wynn

I think the Caribbean would be a good option in January although it is high season so the hotel rates might be higher. Cayman offers great diving -imo the best in the Caribbean, but there are plenty of other great spots.

Thailand is also good at this time of year, so are the Maldives. It is high summer in South Africa which offers spectacular diving albeit in coldish water.

Really it depends on how long you are going for. All of these options are a long way to go for a week, which is why the Red Sea is such a popular choice for a hot weather one week winter diving holiday. If you have 2 weeks then all these longer distance destinations really open up.

Have you looked at Caribbean Mexico ie Cozumel? Cozumel is the Red Sea to many Americans who return time after time for super diving close to home. It's drift diving by and large. Bit of a hassle to get to but very cheap once you do. Cancun is the big mainland resort area near Cozumel. The diving is not so great here but you can go further south towards Tulum and the Costa Maya and have some excellent diving plus the prospect of diving the fresh water cenotes which is really interesting.

Just some ideas.
