Hi Folks
You shouldn't be able to reply to my main post, if you can I'll fix the permissions :D So anything you want to ask, suggest or question then post it here.

read through the switchover plan so understand how it should happen but does this test forum become the basis for the new one?
ie: do some of the existing threads continue as part of the live system when its rolled out?
Presumably the ones related to beta testing will then be deleted

Hopefully this version will just evolve into live and yes we can keep posts, there will probably be a mass prunce of the playing and beta test gumf but it is possible. But there is the risk that we'll have to flatten it and start again, not much of a risk but it's there. The server itself isn't yet live.
Personally I'd rather not start any serious forum business on here at this stage, wait until we've announced parallel running - hopefully by then we'll be pretty confident that flattening it will not be required.

I think we should avoid a parallel run, 'just' switch over.
Running in parallel may result in more post in the old forum being frozen in the archive instead of being live in the new.
IMO of course :)

Seems to work - it's kept me out anyway:
vBulletin MessageTristan Green, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

It's a difficult one! What I don't want to do is announce "the forums are changing..." and then have it fall over when we're hit with the onslaught, the only way we're going to know whether it will cope is when we try it! So how about we phrase it slightly different and shorten the time scale -
1. "...come over and register on our new forums for the final test, if it all goes well then these old forums will be closing in a few days..."
Give it (say) a day and then...
2. "...these forums will be closing in 48 hours..."
If it goes t*ts up and that point I'll just have to apologise and back out of the closedown :) I can't see us reaching that stage for a few days yet, I've got shed loads of stuff to do before we reach the "final" live config :(
